Care & Maintenance
A well-cared-for AITIA doll will last for years. These guidelines protect your investment.
|
Quick rule: clean after every use, dry completely before storage, avoid prolonged bent positions Never use: alcohol, bleach, solvent cleaners, dark unstabilized fabrics against the skin Always use: mild antibacterial soap, lukewarm water, renewal powder (cornstarch or baby powder) |
Daily handling
Positioning & poses
AITIA dolls feature a full EVO bionic steel skeleton with articulated joints. Move all joints slowly and deliberately. Never force a joint past its natural range of motion — if you feel resistance, stop immediately. Forced joints are the most common cause of internal skeleton damage and are not covered under any warranty or return policy.
Do not leave the doll in a stressed or compressed position for extended periods. Prolonged pressure on silicone or TPE causes permanent indentation. When not in use, lay the doll flat in a relaxed, neutral position, or suspend it from the neck hook (where fitted).
Skin & clothing
Silicone and TPE absorb color from dark or non-color-fast fabrics. Always dress your doll in light-colored, pre-washed clothing. Before putting any new garment on your doll for the first time, test for color fastness by pressing the fabric against a white cloth with a damp cloth — if color transfers, do not use that garment.
If staining occurs, treat promptly with a silicone-safe stain remover. Keep away from ballpoint pens, newspaper ink, and any surface that might transfer color. Keep away from sharp objects and rough surfaces.
Keep the doll out of direct sunlight for extended periods. UV exposure degrades both silicone and TPE over time and causes discoloration.
Cleaning
After each use
Clean internal channels promptly after each use. Use the included cleaning wand with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild, fragrance-free antibacterial soap. Insert, rotate, and rinse thoroughly. Repeat until water runs clean. Allow channels to dry completely — insert a dry cloth or fan to accelerate drying — before storage.
Do not use alcohol-based cleaners, bleach, hydrogen peroxide, or any solvent on silicone or TPE. These degrade the material at the molecular level and will cause deterioration, tackiness, and discoloration over time.
Full body cleaning
For a full body clean, use a soft cloth or sponge with lukewarm water and a small amount of gentle soap (baby shampoo or mild hand soap work well). Work in sections. Rinse thoroughly with a clean damp cloth. Do not submerge the doll's head if it contains electronics (voice module or heating system).
Pat dry with a soft, lint-free towel. Do not rub aggressively — blot and press. Allow to air dry fully before dressing or storage. Once dry, apply a light, even dusting of renewal powder (cornstarch or unscented baby powder) across all skin surfaces. This restores the natural matte feel, reduces tackiness, and helps protect the material.
Face & makeup
The Pro 5S makeup finish on AITIA dolls is applied as a permanent surface treatment, not painted on top. Clean the face with a lightly damp soft cloth only. Do not scrub, do not use makeup removers, micellar water, or cleaning pads. These will strip the surface treatment.
If you wish to refresh or restore the makeup finish, contact us — this is a service that can be coordinated through the manufacturer.
Wig care
Remove the wig before every cleaning session. Hand wash with a small amount of mild shampoo in cool water. Rinse gently and blot dry with a towel — never wring. Allow to air dry on a wig stand. Brush only when completely dry, using a wide-tooth comb or wig brush, starting from the ends and working upward.
Store wigs on a stand or in a breathable bag, away from direct sunlight. Do not store compressed or flattened.
Eyes
Default acrylic eyes can be removed and swapped. To remove, use a cotton swab or soft implement to gently press from behind the eye socket. Store spare eyes in a soft cloth pouch. When inserting, ensure the eye is fully seated and centered before closing the eyelid.
Heating rod
Insert the heating rod into the torso channel before use. Follow the heating rod instructions precisely — do not exceed the recommended temperature setting (typically 40°C / 104°F body temperature equivalent). Do not leave the heating rod unattended while powered. Remove and store safely after every use. Never insert the heating rod into a wet channel.
Storage
Short-term (daily/weekly)
Lay flat on a soft surface or hang via the neck suspension hook. Keep in a clean, dry location away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Lightly dusted with renewal powder.
Long-term (weeks or months)
Clean and dry the doll completely before long-term storage. Apply a generous coating of renewal powder to all skin surfaces. Wrap loosely in the included cotton blanket — not plastic, which traps moisture. Store lying flat in a cool, dark location (a storage bag or under-bed box works well).
Check every 4–6 weeks during long-term storage. Reapply renewal powder if the skin feels tacky. Do not store near rubber mats, vinyl surfaces, or other latex or rubber products — off-gassing from these materials reacts with silicone and TPE over time.
What to avoid in storage
– Plastic bags or airtight containers (traps moisture and heat)
– Storing in a bent or compressed position for weeks at a time
– Storing near heat sources, boilers, or in direct sun
– Storing in contact with dark-colored rubber or vinyl
Skeleton maintenance
The internal skeleton is designed for a wide range of poses. Over time, joints may become slightly looser with heavy use — this is normal. If a joint becomes excessively loose, contact us and we can advise on whether a manufacturer service is appropriate.
The movable wrist and finger skeleton options require the same gentle-handling rule: slow, deliberate movement, no forcing. These joints are smaller and more delicate than the main body joints.
